Moody's cuts Poland's credit rating
Moody's has lowered Poland's long-term rating one notch, from A2 to A3 - its lowest since 2002 - while revising the outlook from negative to stable, which signals no further change is expected over the next 12 to 18 months. The move brings Moody's into line with Fitch and S&P, both of which had already rated Poland a notch lower.
The agency pointed to persistent fiscal deficits, rising public debt - projected near 70% of GDP in 2027 - and climbing debt-servicing costs, set to exceed EUR 24.5bn (PLN 107bn) next year, or roughly 3% of GDP. It also flagged weaker fiscal discipline during a period of otherwise solid growth. Source
NBP's 2027 outlook points to relief for borrowers

Poland's economy is set to slow a bit in 2027, but remail 3,X% GDP growth rate. The upside for households and businesses is that price pressure should ease: average inflation in 2027 is forecast to come in below 2026, as global commodity markets normalise and weaker demand takes the heat out of the economy. The NBP reaffirmed its target of around 2.5%, within a 1.5-3.5% band, with interest rates remaining its main tool.
The Council flagged a mixed near-term picture - inflation may run slightly higher in the second half of 2026 as fuel tax and regulatory measures are withdrawn, though it stressed these are one-off, administrative effects rather than signs of an overheating economy. The labour market is expected to stay healthy, with low unemployment, even as wage growth cools further (still over 5% by the way).
Taken together, the assumptions are that lower interest rates are expected, rather than hikes. For the market, that would usually mean better conditions for borrowers, lower deposit rates, and support for equity and bond prices. Source
Polish inflation may jump to 4% in September

Poland's inflation is set to accelerate more than expected. Analysts at Erste Bank Polska forecast that September CPI likely rose to 4% year on year, up from 3.4% in August, with the flash estimate from the statistics office GUS due on 30 September.
The spike is driven almost entirely by fuel prices, which jumped around 10% month on month in September after the government's "Lower Fuel Prices" support scheme was withdrawn and global oil prices rebounded. Without that change, inflation would have stayed close to the August level.
The bank warns that with no clear sign of de-escalation in the Middle East, CPI could anchor above 4% in the coming months and possibly climb further. If commodity markets do not clearly reverse by November, an interest-rate hike by the Monetary Policy Council would shift from a risk scenario to the base case - a notable counterpoint to the rate-cut hopes implied by the NBP's own 2027 outlook. A rate hike enters the conversation as the złoty weakens

The Polish Zloty remains weak on global factors. The euro traded around 4.38 PLN after touching 4.40 last week, its highest in about two and a half years, while a strengthening dollar rose to roughly 3.84 PLN. As the graph from last 3 years shows, the Polish currency has been very stable last two years, but traded even above 4,70 vs Euro in 2023. Source
European metals industry warns Chinese supply chains threaten production and jobs

Eurometal (a European steel distributors’ organization, European Union) warns that China’s growing role in European supply chains could reduce production, investment, employment and industrial know-how. The metals industry plans a protest outside the European Commission in Brussels, featuring 10 symbolic coffins. The European Commission estimates that high energy prices and global competition could put more than one million European industrial jobs at risk. The protest highlights concerns about unfair competition, as European metal producers face carbon emission costs and steel import duties while Chinese components remain untaxed. Source
EU-China trade deficit reaches record €196 billion as imports rise

The European Union’s trade deficit with China rose by more than 9% to a record €196 billion, while imports from China increased by more than 5%. Cars and electric batteries accounted for about one-third of the import growth. Chinese manufacturers reached nearly 10% of new-vehicle sales in Europe and more than 12.5% in Poland. Import of data processing devices increased by €1 billion year-on-year, representing 6% annual growth. Poland’s total imports from China grew 11%, doubling compared to 2019 levels.
A White House report lists Poland among 40 countries potentially involved in rerouting Chinese goods to avoid United States tariffs. The Polish Economic Institute says the trend highlights long-term risks for European producers due to insufficient tariff coverage and state subsidies supporting Chinese manufacturing sectors. Source
Kostrzyn-Słubice zone draws record investment
The Kostrzyn-Słubice Special Economic Zone posted its best-ever first half, with investors declaring EUR 481mn (PLN 2.1bn) in capital spending - three times the EUR 160mn (PLN 701mn) logged a year earlier. Investment decisions rose from 19 to 33, with the planned projects set to create nearly 300 jobs.
The largest include Alter GPU Center's EUR 105mn (PLN 460mn) AI data centre, Sunday Natural's EUR 78mn (PLN 340mn) facility, and Capri Sun's EUR 62mn (PLN 273mn) plant. Domestic companies account for 73% of projects, and the full-year figure could climb higher still, as a non-European investor weighs a multibillion-euro project.
Western Poland continues to benefit from strong infrastructure, proximity to Germany, competitive costs and available industrial land - a reminder of why the region keeps drawing manufacturers and, increasingly, tech. Source
Poland's industrial PMI fell a bit in August - far below EUROZONE
Poland's manufacturing PMI fell to 48.3 in August from 49.0 in July, missing the 49.6 economists expected. Output and new orders fell faster, cost pressures picked up, and supplier delivery times were the longest in over four years. September data points the same way. GUS's September business survey found manufacturers the most pessimistic of all sectors, with the climate indicator falling to -5.8 from -5.1.
The euro area is moving the other way. Its flash manufacturing PMI held at 52.7 in September, and the composite index rose to 53.1, its highest since April 2023. Polish factories aren't yet sharing in Europe's industrial recovery. PKO BP economists argue the PMI understates conditions, pointing to 5% year-on-year growth in industrial production in July. The September PMI, due on 1 October, will show whether the gap is narrowing.
Polish Government set to finalize 2027 budget

Poland's Council of Ministers is due to adopt the final 2027 budget bill this week and must send it to the Sejm by 30 September, as the constitution requires.
The draft plans spending of PLN 977.6 billion (€223.4 billion), revenues of PLN 695 billion (€158.8 billion) and a record deficit of up to PLN 282.6 billion (€64.6 billion).
Tax income is forecast at PLN 622.4 billion (€142.2 billion), up PLN 57.8 billion (€13.2 billion) from 2026. That includes VAT rising to PLN 363.7 billion (€83.1 billion) and corporate income tax to PLN 94.6 billion (€21.6 billion).
Defence gets PLN 198.1 billion (€45.3 billion), or 4.51% of GDP, and healthcare PLN 274.1 billion (€62.7 billion). Debt-servicing costs are set to rise by PLN 17 billion (€3.9 billion) to PLN 107 billion (€24.4 billion).
The budget assumes 3% GDP growth, 2.8% average inflation and 6% unemployment at year-end. It also includes a 3% pay rise for the public sector and teachers, and a minimum wage of PLN 4,950 (€1,131). Source, Source
Digital tax revenue coming in 2027?
Poland has included its first revenues from a planned 3% digital tax on big tech firms in the 2027 budget, even though the bill is still in government consultations. The tax would apply to groups with global revenue above €1 billion and Polish revenue above PLN 25 million (€5.7 million). It covers three services: targeted advertising, multi-sided digital platforms and paid data transfers. Firms could reduce the tax by the corporate income tax they pay, their R&D spending and their investment in Poland. Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski called it a "fairness tax" on companies that earn money in Poland. Source, Source
Polish wages grow 5.6% in August-September, below forecasts
Polish wage growth undershot forecasts in August 2026, according to data Statistics Poland (GUS) published on 21 September. The average gross monthly wage in the enterprise sector reached 9,260 PLN (~€2,168 ), down 2.6% from July but up 5.6% year on year. Analysts had expected 6.6%. Source, Source

Up to 40% of Poles cannot afford to buy or rent at market prices, government says
About 30-40% of Poles are in the "rent gap": they earn too much for social housing but too little to rent or buy privately, Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Tomasz Lewandowski said in September.
